What Won't Disappoint this Christmas!

As we get closer to Christmas, our anticipation of the the day increases and our desire to get or give the perfect gift seems to overshadow all else. If past years are the indicators of the present, we know that we may very well be disappointed this Christmas. What we forget is that we already have the perfect Christmas gift....and that it is more precious than anything else we could receive. Make Christmas about Christ's birth!

Is the Christmas Story a Myth?

Today's sermon will explain the historicity of the Christmas Story from the book of Luke and to draw out some implications for how we live. The proof that we need to show that the story of Christ's birth is found in Scripture, as well as in historical findings that our culture accepts as valid.

The Office and the Jobsite

As a result of Adam's rebellion, work in this world is cursed and frustrated. Everyone experiences work environments that are frustrating because the created order is corrupted and our relationships within the workplace are corrupted. We also work in corrupt ways. We are lazy and disrespectful to employers. Furthermore, rather than stewarding creation as God's representatives, we abuse and mistreat created order. In Christ, work is restored to God's original intent as we perform it uprightly, with aim to His glory, and stewarding His earth in righteousness.

The Key to Marriage Renewal

In Genesis 3:16, God curses the relationship between man and woman in response to Adam's disobedience. As we are restored to God in Christ, the Holy Spirit inwardly restores us in the image of God, and this restores marriage to God's original intent. We are to honor God through our relationships with our spouses, by remembering the grace that God has shown us, and showing grace to those around us. Colossians 3:9-10

Death Undone

Adam and Eve were originally made eternal like God, but due to Adam's disobedience, they now experience physical decline and, ultimately, death. Christ, the second Adam, restores God's original intent, by defeating death in His resurrection. All those in Christ share in eternal life, which is essentially restoration of Creation before the fall. Our 80 years on earth is nothing compared to our eternal stay in Heaven.

We are Made in God's Likeness

We typically find our worth in man's approval, our pay grade, our athleticism, our beauty, etc. But our true value and intrinsic worth is because we reflect the Creator of the universe. We are made in God's likeness. This likeness to God is corrupted in Adam but restored through Christ.

Where is the Camera Pointing?

Today I would like to uncover how we praise people with worldly fame, wealth, and influence and to call us towards praising those who take God seriously. The passage in Psalm 15 describes the righteous man who dwells with the Lord. We'll focus on verse 4 which says the righteous man despises a vile person but "honors those who fear the Lord". The Christ centeredness of the passage is that Jesus is the truly righteous man who dwells with the Lord. In Him we are pardoned for how we break verse 4 and through Him we abide with God both now and eternally.

What Is The Root Problem of the Human Will?

Our society feels that people are fundamentally good and honest and if people do something wrong it is the result of poor parenting, poor role models, or other environmental factors. I believe the Bible teaches us that the corruption of the human will began in Adam. God delivered us from death and corruption through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Where Did This All Come From?

As a culture, we have pushed aside the idea that God created all things. As our schools began teaching theories of how our planet and solar system came into being and Darwinian evolution, we started questioning the simplicity of what the Bible says. Where ever you are in your thinking, please listen with an open heart and mind while I spend a few moments asking you to question those theories and ultimately give God the rightful glory as creator.
